The System-in-Package features an integrated MCU and modem for cellular IoT, reducing power usage by 45% and enhancing global IoT solutions.

SiP

Nordic Semiconductor has launched a System-in-Package (SiP), the nRF9151, along with its corresponding nRF9151 Development Kit (DK). The nRF9151 is an integrated, pre-certified SiP that includes an MCU suitable for development or standalone use as a cellular modem. This product facilitates developing and deploying IoT solutions in sectors such as industrial automation, asset tracking, smart cities, metering, and agriculture.

The SiP advances cellular IoT technology, providing an accessible solution worldwide. It features hardware with a programmable processor, software, cloud services, development tools, and support.

The SiP supports 3GPP release 14 for LTE-M/NB-IoT and DECT NR+, and its design reduces size and power consumption, cutting peak power usage by 45%, which lowers battery operation costs. Future firmware updates will include Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) capabilities. The nRF9151 Development Kit (DK) includes pre-loaded SIM cards from Onomondo and Wireless Logic with free data, making it suitable for developers beginning cellular IoT projects. The kit comes with pre-installed Serial LTE Modem applications for AT Command interfacing and provides access to additional firmware samples through Nordic’s nRF Connect for Desktop software.

“I’m excited that the nRF9151 is entering production because we know our customers and many other IoT developers demand a highly integrated, compact, and low-power LTE-M/NB-IoT and DECT NR+ solution. This product is the only one on the market that meets that demand through functionality and a resilient supply chain,” said Øyvind Birkenes, Nordic Semiconductor’s EVP of BU Long Range.

“Not only does the nRF9151 bring class-leading performance to cellular IoT, but Nordic is also the only global company to offer a complete cellular IoT solution. As a result, we’re already seeing high demand from customers developing the next generation of products in the massive IoT markets, such as smart metering, asset tracking, and Industrial IoT products. We are eager to also close gaps and bring global coverage through the upcoming NTN support.”
