It comes preloaded with AT Command controlled modem firmware, simplifyng design challenges for IoT developers

Equipped with the power of LoRaWAN, the new Type 1SJ modem solution by Murata claims to be the smallest in the world with a size of only 10.0 mm × 8.0 mm × 1.6 mm. The AT-command controlled modem module operates from a single supply rail up to 3.9V DC and incorporates several low power modes that allow the real-time clock (RTC) to operate while drawing a typical current of just 1.3µA, assuring battery longevity. It is also ruggedness with a temperature range of -40ºC to +85ºC.

Based on a second-generation Semtech SX1262 radio frequency IC (RFIC), the Type 1SJ LoRaWAN modem module comes preloaded with AT Command controlled modem firmware and a LoRaWAN stack with an AT Command middle layer. These features enable a faster time-to-market and ease design challenges for IoT developers.

The device currently supports the US915 band in North America. Future adaptations of the module are intended for Europe, India, China and Pacific Rim markets. It is suitable for a wide range of applications requiring miniaturised footprint, long-range, extended battery life, advanced security and a competitive price.

“The new Type 1SJ LoRaWAN modem module allows designers to develop products that meet the most demanding requirements, especially in areas such as asset tracking, utilities, agriculture, smart cities, smart buildings, industrial and other IoT applications,” said Steve Kim, Business Development Manager, Connectivity Solutions for Murata Americas.

“LoRaWAN empowers customers to develop secure, next-generation and innovative IoT applications by providing them with accessible and easy-to-use solutions. The long-range and low power advantages of LoRaWAN enable applications with leading flexibility for nearly any possible use case and vertical market,” said Pedro Pachuca, Director of Wireless Products in Semtech’s Wireless and Sensing Products Group.

The initial launch module supports the US915 band only. Modules supporting other bands such as the EU868 band will be launched afterwards.
