Digital Enhancement has introduced the world’s first commercial-grade Radio Processing Unit (RPU) for Wi-Fi wireless access. The RPU, powered by Digital Enhancement’s “Digital RF” technology, delivers a 10x performance boost in Wi-Fi coverage. This innovation improves wireless connectivity for consumer electronics.

The RPU features closed-loop training and real-time calibration architecture. Its hybrid analog-to-digital-to-analog pre-distortion algorithm improves RF system performance through digital compensation.

With a “plug-in” enhancement model, the RPU separates RF performance from the baseband system-on-chip (SoC), allowing manufacturers to integrate it based on product needs. This enables a plug-and-play experience.

The RPU strengthens signals and improves user experiences. It enhances Wi-Fi routers’ coverage, boosts bridge devices’ transmission speed and range, and increases power amplifier (PA) output without extra heat or emissions. It also reduces the need for directional antennas by lowering antenna gain requirements. Industrial Wi-Fi maintains power output and prevents speed degradation over time.

Our plug-in solution gives the industry a way to differentiate products. This approach offers flexibility whether a product aims for higher performance, better RF system efficiency, improved thermal management, or stronger out-of-band suppression for multi-device coexistence. The RPU-equipped modular solutions for Wi-Fi 6/7 wireless access support mass production at 500mW and 1W in the 5GHz-6GHz band at MCS11 rates, with lab data showing 3W output when paired with nonlinear FEMs. The solution improves consumer electronics performance while supporting energy efficiency and sustainability.
