Space: Earlier, getting into space was a very expensive proposition. You had to have a large budget, large number of engineers and scientists to support it. Today, you have companies such as SpaceX and other relatively smaller firms launching satellites into space. We also see the increasing popularity of CubeSat amongst both academia and giant firms like Boeing. CubeSat is a miniaturised satellite that weighs less than 2kg, has a volume of 1 litre and can be launched for about US$ 50,000.
It is obvious now that a lot of exciting innovations, powered by the fusion of communication, sensing, computing and control technologies, is being enabled by today’s software tools. We can also see that innovation in software is a prerequisite for innovation in various verticals. So, let us keep watching this space for more such interesting developments.
